So I purchased the ARB 50qt fridge and slider Friday. I'm currently working on plans to make a platform to mount it to in the rear cargo area of the Jeep.
Goose Gear makes a great product but it's overly expensive and I'd have to remove or relocate my sub woofer which I don't want to do.
Something like this is what I'll be working on.....
Under the platform there will be a hidden storage compartment that I dont want to lose so I'll need to make a access door of some sort to not lose that space.
It's the perfect size for tow straps, d-rings and a tire repair kit. So yeah this is want I'm currently working on starting today. Once I complete the rear portion I'll remove the rear seats and continue the platform forward with more compartments for storage. This will allow me to throw the rear seats back in if the need for more seating ever arises.
Yesterday and today I spent waiting on stuff so I made a template for the rear fridge slide platform. The Jeep cargo mat was the shape I needed so that was fairly easy.
Got bored waiting on UPS to get here (out for delivery at 8:30am, shows up at 6pm) so I reinstalled the tailgate table that I had to remove to do the bumper wiring. Used nutserts this time rather than the crappy anchors Frontrunner supplied.
Everything is just mocked up. Still need to cover in carpet, mount slide to platform and then anchor it to the Jeep. Tomorrow I guess.
Wow! Matt, your Jeep is way more "built" than mine!
Thanks Guy. I had a vision/goal when I bought her. I wanted to be able to do the Rubicon trail, Moab etc but still be overland friendly. I didn't want to "have" to turn around because the road might get too rough. I occasionally do things with my Jeep club and the capabilities need to be on a different level than what overlanding requires. I didn't want to end up with a purpose built vehicle that felt weird to go to the movies or the grocery store in. I daily my Jeep. Everything "overland" for my build needs to be modular.
That looks great, what size is that Fridge? It is the second Gen right, how do you like it so far.
Yeah its the ARB 50qt (47L) Classic Series 2. So far it works good. I used it approx. 12 hours Saturday and it worked as advertised. Plugged it in at 7am to house power, switched to Jeep power at 8am, filled with room temp water bottles for the event at the grocery store. Shut it off at 7pm when I got home. We had cold water all day. It was nice. So far so good.
Last of the big mods ordered today. This will "complete" (are they ever REALLY complete?) the build I envisioned 2 years ago. Rhino Rack (56"x72"), Teraflex Delta Brake Upgrade, and the Oztent RV-5.
After they have arrived and I install them its fine tuning, build the rest of the cargo platform, add some rack/rock lights and a few other odds and ends. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
